According to my thinking,
Being a pahadi, I can explain about Uttarakhand very well than others.
One thing that completely describes Uttarakhand is that , "Uttarakhand means Pahad".
And you know what is the first thing that comes in the mind, when someone talks about Uttarakhand is, that this place is next to heaven.
It is so, because this place is pollution free and here one can easily get fresh fruits and vegetables and one of the best thing about Uttarakhand is that, here everyone can experience nature beauty and peace because of the soothing environment.
Uttarakhand formerly known as Uttaranchal. It is mostly referred as devbhumi meaning land of Gods due to numerous Hindu temples and pilgrimage centres found in this state.
Uttarakhand has a total area of 53,483 (kilometre)^2 of which 86% is covered by mountains and 65% is covered by forest. Most of the northern part of the state is covered by high Himalayan peaks and glaciers.
Top tourist attraction of Uttarakhand:-
Almora is a town which is rich in cultural heritage, exquisite wildlife, and exhilarating views of the Himalayas. Also it should not be surprising that there are plenty of places to visit in Almora.
These places are as follows-
- Kasar Devi temple - This temple is the 8 th century Shiva temple and is located at the highest point in this region.
- Bageshwar lake - This is one of the must visit lake in Almora. One should see the beauty of this lake once in life .
- Binsar wildlife sanctuary - If you are a wildlife enthusiast then you should definitely visit this place. Here, you can spot animals like Jungle cats, spotted leopard, barking deer, langoors, woodpeckers and so on.

Kausani is a hill station situated in Bageshwar district in Uttrakhand. This place is best for people who want to enjoy a relaxing vacation away from the noisy and polluted environment of their city.
Nainital is one of the most favourite location of all the tourist. It is famous for boating in Naini Lake. Thousands of tourist visit here everyday to see this lake and to experience boating in this lake. It is a Himalayan resort town in the Kumaon region .
If you want to escape yourself from the the world, then come to Mussoorie.
It is a hill station which is about 35 kilometres from the state capital of Dehradun .The hill station is in the foothills of the Garhwal Himalayan range.

Must try these dishes of Uttarakhand-
Aalo ke Gutke-
This is a mouth watering dish. It is a dry dish made with spices. This recipe is served either with poori or with Chapati.
Bhaag ki Chatni-
Don't confuse it with some alcoholic substance. It is prepared with roasted bhaang, cumin seeds and a lot of lemon juice. Try it once.... Seriously it is a damn yummy dish.
It is a mouth watering sweet dish made with cane sugar, rice and mustard oil. Festival in Uttrakhand is incomplete without this dish.
Maduae ki roti-
It is a roti which is made from madua. This roti is very beneficial in winter season as it keeps the body warm and protect the body from every kind of flu.
All the pahadi can relate, baal mithayi is true love . It is that sweet dist that every pahadi knows. Must try this......you will definitely love this.
Jhangora ki Kheer-
It is a delightful dessert of Garhwal region in Uttarakhand. It makes for a delicious sweet dish and is quite popular in the state. It has a rich texture with the goodness of milk and a unique taste to die for.
Singori also called Singodi. It is a widely known sweet dish in Uttarakhand that’s made with Khoa and is wrapped in a Maalu leaf. It is a cone-shaped sweet savoury that’s available in Almora the Kumaon region of Uttarakhand.
