Fans could watch 2nd India-England Test match in Chennai with the new Covid Guidelines.
Fans might be allowed in second India-England Test match in Chennai after the Central government refreshes the new covid-19 guidelines and permitted the crowd to attend only 50 percent of capacity at the stadium.
The BCCI and the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association had deliberated on entry of fans earlier also before deciding that the first two matches will be held in closed doors. But the latest home minister guidelines on easing of restrictions on public movement have changed the scenario.
"There is no time to allow entry of the spectators for the first test starting on February 5 as we only received the government notification on Saturday. you can't organise entry of spectators at such short notice," a senior TNCA official told PTI on anonymity.
But yes, now with the new guidelines, there is every possibility that second test match starting from February 14 might have fans as per the notice, BCCI said.
The chepauk has the capacity of 50,000 spectators.
The BCCI source said that the third and fourth test between the two sides at the refurnished Sardar Patel Stadium in motera, Ahmedabad.
A BCCI source said that Board's top leadership and TNCA bosses will have a series of meeting to mark out the modalities starting.
" It was clear for the BCCI and TNCA that allowing crowd in 3rd and 4th Test match at motera, Ahmedabad. But now we received a guideline came the BCCI and TNCA had the planning for the second Test can be reworked.
the TNCA is also contemplating allowing the media to cover from the press box .However, no concrete decision has been taken yet even though it is only logical that media also get access to the press box if crowds are going to get in .
The media conferences will still he held remotely and the players or training session for the time being will remain out of the bounds.
